The only line with known information to date is that of son James, whose son James moved from Bowden to Maxton.
The most likely marriage to fit the parents of the James who married Isobel Wood is that to Margaret Houd/Howd, but there is no proof that this is the correct family.

At last (May 2018) we have a yDNA signature for James - R-M269 - which will hopefully be refined in the months to come.
There is one y37 level match, GD4, to a WIGHT family with origins in Longformacus, from the neighbouring county of Berwickshire.
